What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin pieces of ceramic material (often compared to shells) that cover the visible part of the teeth, thereby aesthetically enhancing them. Before applying the veneer, only the front surface of the tooth is minimally invasively prepared using magnification aids (dental microscope and loupes). In some cases, the teeth do not need to be prepared at all; these are known as no-prep veneers.

What types of veneers are there?

Dental veneers can be made from composite or ceramic material.

Ceramic Veneers

A ceramic veneer must be fabricated in our dental laboratory based on a digital impression. The tooth is first prepared in the clinic by grinding, then its surface is scanned, and the information is sent to a dental technician who creates a digital design.

This design is created in accordance with the shape and color of your teeth or according to your individual preferences, taking into account the possibilities presented by your oral situation. Subsequently, the veneer is milled from a strong and color-stable material (lithium disilicate), its surface is glazed (the surface structure is modified, and a glossy finish is created), and it can be painlessly bonded to your tooth using a special method.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers, on the other hand, are created directly in the patient's mouth using a light-cured composite filling. There is no need to scan the teeth, and no dental laboratory phase is involved. They are made directly in a single appointment, meaning there is no waiting for their fabrication. However, compared to ceramic veneers, this is a less aesthetic and durable solution.

Are Dental Veneers Right for You?

Dental veneers are a suitable solution

Ceramic veneers are primarily an aesthetic solution. With them, we can achieve a natural appearance for teeth, change their color and shape, correct irregularities of individual teeth, and thereby optically and functionally improve the position of teeth in the dental arch.

They are a suitable solution for:

  • dissatisfaction with the shape of teeth;
  • dissatisfaction with the colour of teeth;
  • the need to cover unaesthetic fillings;
  • gaps in dentition that need to be filled;
  • tooth damage due to injury, or developmental damage.

Dental veneers are not a suitable solution

The most important step in determining the suitability of veneers is to undergo an examination and consultation with our treating dentists. There are certain cases where ceramic veneers are not a suitable solution.

This primarily includes:

  • improper tooth alignment that needs to be treated orthodontically;
  • bruxism — teeth grinding; in this case, treating teeth with ceramic veneers would significantly reduce their lifespan;
  • periodontitis — as all aesthetic adjustments are performed only after the patient's dental condition has been treated and stabilized.

What is the lifespan of ceramic dental veneers?

The lifespan of ceramic veneers is highly individual, but generally, it is stated to be 10 – 20 years. However, it is essential to note that with proper fabrication, good home and regular professional dental hygiene, and regular preventive check-ups, their lifespan can be unlimited. In case of veneer damage, we can easily replace it.

How much do dental veneers cost?

The price for a full ceramic veneer starts at 450€ with us. However, the final cost depends on the extent of the required dental modification. An individual approach, personal consultation, and examination are essential to determine an accurate treatment plan. Based on this, we will prepare a precise and binding price quotation.
